High End v Drugstore Makeup to Make you Look Younger in your Sixties!

Cream products can really help us mature women to look glowy and gorgeous, and I’ve picked out four high end and four drugstore products which will enhance your mature, over 60 skin, and help you achieve that radiance we all crave!

Bronzers

I have chosen two, partly because they come highly rated on beauty websites, at around 4.6 stars each.

Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Sun-Kissed Glow Bronzer<br />

Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Sun-Kissed Glow Bronzer.

This bronzer comes in a huge pan which I imagine is because you can use it on your body. It has a lovely creamy consistency and does give my skin an attractive sheen without any hint of orange. It contains hyaluronic acid and Vitamin D and allegedly lasts for 16 hours, which would mean you’d have to put it on as soon as you woke up, but a nice-to-know! It’s a warm toned bronzer and would be perfect for a summer holiday look and won’t cake. It comes in four shades and I’m in the shade 2 Medium and pricey at £44.

Revolution Ultra cream Bronzer

Revolution Ultra Cream Bronzer

By contrast, the Revolution Bronzer is much smaller but only retails for around £6 in the UK. Now I had thought this didn’t contain fragrance, but on close inspection of the ingredients, it actually does. Interestingly, though, I haven’t had a reaction – I get seborrheic dermatitis if I come into contact with fragranced products – but happily, not with this one. It does contain silicone which means it slips on nicely, and colour wise is a lot cooler toned that the Charlotte Tilbury. At £6 I’d say it’s hard to beat, and also applies well. It does look very dark in the pan but once you blend it out it works well on my slightly olive-y skin. It comes in 3 shades and I’m in the shade Medium.

Now on application, I find a dry or slightly moistened sponge is best, although I have watched YouTubers use brushes – I’ve not found one that works for me.  Or you could you use your fingers.

Blushers

Merti Flush Blush

Merit Flush Blush

Merit is a brand new to me and new to the UK – you can buy products directly from their site if you are in the UK but in the US and I believe in some parts of Europe you can buy the brand from Sephora.

I love the idea of a cream makeup product having dual use, and the Merit blusher can be used on lips as well as cheeks.

Merit is a pricey brand, but their creds are good – they style themselves a clean brand, and I know the word clean is a little contentious as there is no official definition of that term, but they are vegan, cruelty free and they work with a US facialist to eliminate any likely skin irritants.

The blush is called Flush Balm and I’m in the shade Cheeky which is a lovely dark pink and looks gorgeous on the lips too.

Pricey at £32 but you don’t need a lot so it should last you a good few months.

Makeup Revolution Fast Base Blush Stick

Makeup Revolution Fast Base Blush Stick

The drugstore product is again by Revolution and is also vegan and cruelty free, but does contain fragrance, which I again I didn’t spot, but has not so far irritated my skin. It contains Vitamin E and is slightly paler than the Merit and has slightly more pigment. It comes in 6 shades and I’m in the shade Bare, and costs around £6.

On balance, I’d say the Revolution lasts longer than the Merit on my normal but very mature skin.

Liquid Eyeshadows

I am a recent convert to liquid eyeshadows, and although there is a trick to applying them, I think they work really well on mature eyelids. The best way to apply is to use your finger or the applicator then blend straight away with a flat shader brush. Don’t forget to put the lid on as they will dry out.

Lisa Eldridge Lurex Eyeshadow

Lisa Eldridge Liquid Lurex

I bought a couple of these liquid eyeshadows from Lisa Eldridge last Christmas and wore them to a couple of parties – and in fact did a Christmas party video (link below) where I applied them – but then forgot I had them until recently.

They come in 14 shades and cost £19 each.  I love Zora, the dark brown sparkly shade, which is currently out of stock but worth signing up for if you like the look of it.

Kiko Milano Long Lasting Liquid Eyeshadow

Kiko Milano Long Lasting Liquid Eyeshadow

Kiko Milano is a new to me brand, although they have a large store in London at the top of Regent Street. I really love this dark brown sparkly shade, and it certainly gives Lisa’s eyeshadows a run for their money, at around £9 – NB the affiliate link in this instance might be pricier than purchasing it directly from Kiko Milano’s store.

Lip Tints

I am a recent convert to lip oils, partly because I wasn’t sure I’d be able to find a non-fragranced version – but happily I’ve found two! These won’t last all day by any means but the great thing about them is that you can reapply easily without a mirror, in fact I often slick on a little in the middle of my bottom lip and press my lips together to add some to my top lip. Both products are cruelty free.

Merit Gelee Tinted Lip oil

Merit Gelee Lip Oil

These gelee lip oils from Merit look so beautiful on their website, and they don’t disappoint in reality. There are four shades in the gelee version of the lip oil (they also have 8 regular lip oil shades) and I went for the gelee shade Mapleton. It contains plant-derived squalene and quinoa oil. Again, pricey at £28 but oh so gorgeous.

Versed Tinter Lip Oil

Versed Silk Slip Tinted Lip Oil in Ruby

I had to hunt around to find a drugstore equivalent but found this one by Versed, a new to me brand based in the US and mostly focusing on skincare. I really love this lip oil, which contains jojoba oil and vitamin E, and the price point is great at only £9.
